It's Here!!!! My Staircase Redo is Published!!

I'm having my own little celebration over it! My staircase experiment turned out much better than I ever imagined and now it's famous!  Ok, that's a stretch, but it is featured on the "I Did It!" page of Better Homes & Gardens!

I am more excited than I thought I'd be, and I can finally share the news and some more juicy details about how this came to be!  No, I didn't race off to the magazine aisle at the local supermarket to find my issue. I was sweating my butt off outside pulling weeds, when my sister texted me that she was in the store and saw it!!

I was under the impression that this baby wasn't coming out until next Tuesday.  So my wonderful sis promptly drove over a few copies, and there we were!!!  This is an awful picture with my phone...but I was weeding, I swear!

  2. Hi Christy, as soon as I saw your painted stairs in BHG, I searched out your blog to see how you did it. If I could just ask you one question, you used black porch paint but was it satin or semi-gloss? I had originally painted my stairs all white, which means I have to tackle them with the bleach cleanser a couple times of week and so sick of it! I have four dogs, so you can understand my frustration!

    1. Hi Patti, I used Valspar "Latex Porch & Floor Paint" in a satin finish. I really don't know if it comes in any other finish, the girl behind the paint counter at Lowe's suggested it, so I tried it! It was very dull, so that's why I added the poly on top. I did two coats of the black, then one of Minwax semi gloss, it isn't slippery either. It has really stood up to all the traffic, but oh the dog hair really shows! (But I figured that hair was all over the carpet and I never knew it so now it's actually being cleaned up more often!)

  6. So this question is probably WAY too personal, but I went to all the trouble to look you up online after seeing your stair page in the magazine...so here goes. Feel free to not answer.

You have a gap in ages between your second and third son, and a matching gap between people on the stairs. Is there a child missing? I lost a baby brother, and we always left a gap for him in our photos. Just wondering if I'm filtering my own experiences onto your magazine photo, or if I see something intentional. Sending you congratulations and support either way. :)

    1. I'm sorry for your loss, but no, our family is complete, and honestly, I am not sure why the photographer and the stylist arranged my children the way they did. I am going to guess it was because my older two are taller and would block the staircase and trim on the wall. Thank you looking!
