Now it's officially a matched set. I finished the chair that goes with the sofa, by recovering it with an 8 oz. canvas drop cloth...and yes, I hot glued it on. Sorry people, but that liquid stitching just doesn't do it.
If you missed it, check out my previous post on the sofa redo, to see the steps. I simply used black glossy spray-paint and drop-cloths, oh and hot glue to transform my gaudy living room furniture.

Hi -:-) I have bleached drop cloth also but mine doesn't look nearly as light as yours, what method did you use? I wish I was talented enough to try to redo my couches but I don't think I better try that yet. Thanks for the great posts.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie, I filled the washer about half way, then dumped the bleach directly into the hot water. I used about 3/4 of a gallon, then I added the fabric and soaked it for several hours. If it still looks too dark, do it again. This happened with my sofa and I just repeated it. It's worth the wait, oh and the whole downstairs smells really, really, clean ;)
DeleteLooks good! I tried that but didn't add as much bleach and did not like the turn out - I will try again - thanks for the tip!! Trisha
ReplyDeleteI just purchased a camel-back sofa that someone chalk-painted the upholstery. It is AWFUL. It has all the beauty and softness of asphalt. Sooo, I was wondering if anyone thinks that ripping out the rivets, and replacing with drop-cloth would work? I don't know if glue would be a permanent thing, but Vandyke's restorers has the ones that are pre-spaced. I don't mind spending the time on it, but I'd like to know if anyone thinks it would wind up being a waste of time. BTW, I'm not looking for it to be perfect-looking - I don't mind if it has some frays and appearance of wear. Any feedback would be really appreciated!
